Music class (orff)

Music is an important learning tool in early childhood. orff sessions are not only fun, they allow children to develop intellectually, socially and physically. Our preference is for children to be involved in the learning process of our 3-4 and 4-6-year-old classes before moving onto instrumental lessons. These classes ensure children have developed fundamental skills, such as keeping a steady beat, which is crucial to learning an instrument. The 3-4 (Term 1)and 4-6 (term 2 and 3) year old programs make the concepts of beat and rhythm conscious and introduce children to the music staff with help of xylophone(an instrument that is made of metal or wooden bars). Because these classes demand extended concentration, parents are able to observe their children and assess whether they are ready to begin learning an instrument. Our experience is that children who have completed our 3-4 and 4-6 year-old programs transition smoothly onto an instrument and make excellent progress right from their first lessonTheir musical development progress into the conscious learning of key concepts such as musical phrases (introduced by a question and answer songs), differentiating between beat and rhythm and improvisation.
